There are Laptops with vision based method where in the notebook identifies the features of an individual and enables him/her to proceed with working on the laptop. And now it is turn for cell phones to use the such a process as an input mechanism.

A Quick Review At The New Input Interface

Two Japanese scientists, Professor Masatoshi Ishikawa and Dr. Takashi Komuro of Tokyo University, have laid out a new interface for mobile phones- an innovative input approach. Slightly different from laptop computers, cell phones are not going to use a human feature to identify an individual but are going to scan five fingers of the user trying to trying to use the mobile phone.

How Does A Vision- Based Input Interface In Cell Phone Work?

The cell phone will recognize five fingers of the individual operating the cell phone. After which the image is transformed into binary form by which the laptop analyzes position of the fingertips. All this means, you, the user, won’t have to physically touch the cell phone. You may simply use your fingers to direct the cell phone to execute a specific function for you.

Functions Users Can Perform Using The New Input Approach

Along with basic features such as texting a message and clicking, you may also surf the net. All this may not seem very clear; you may want to watch the video demonstrating how the vision based input technique works here- Japanese develop New Input Mechanism For Cell Phones. (Also, there is a paper with comprehensive description of the high- speed finger tracking mechanism by the same Professors who devised this input interface in mobile phones. )

Whether or not such type of mobile phones will be launched in the market is still not disclosed. The authorities, perhaps, may be waiting to get a few ratings from readers prior to actually launching the phones to public.
